Looking at the Wide World of Casino Bonuses

One of the things that make playing at online gambling casinos so potentially rewarding is that you have the opportunity to take advantage of the bonus system.

What is a bonus? Well, simply put, it is a reward that is put up by the casino that you would get for signing up as a new customer, or that you could redeem as an existing customer. The bonus that gets the most attention is that of the signup bonus, which could be known as the "new player bonus" or the "initial deposit bonus."

Bonuses are offered for a very simple and logical reason - because there is so much competition in the industry for players that there has to be something attractive in the way of an incentive to get a customer to sign up.

So the bonuses will be dressed up with a lot of attractiveness. It is rare to find a signup bonus that is ultimately cashable for less than 100% of the player's initial deposit. And some of those bonuses are good for more than one deposit. In some casinos, there might be a bonus of at least 50% on four or five deposit going beyond the first deposit. Clearly these casinos want to keep you on board for a while.

Of course, there are other reload bonuses that can take care of that too. They could come, for example, in the form of a monthly bonus that is worth 100% and good for the first deposit of every calendar month. Some bonuses are tailored to the particular category of game you want to play. So if you were someone who enjoyed slots, you could get a bonus and earn credit towards it only for playing slots games. The same might go for table games, like blackjack or craps.

One thing these bonuses generally have in common is that you will be required to put a certain amount of money into action in order to convert them into cash. This "wagering requirement" could vary from casino to casino, but usually you would be required to wager, on a cumulative basis, anywhere from 25 to 40 times the amount of the deposit PLUS the bonus. So if your deposit is $100 and the bonus is 100% (another $100), you would have to make $200 times 40, or $8000 worth of wagers before you were able to add that $100 to your account. You'll find that you can get there sooner than you think.

There are no-deposit or "free play" bonuses available as well, where you would not have to deposit but can receive either a free round of play or complimentary credits, with a specific time to win as much as possible. You can only add this amount (which usually is capped) if you eventually open up a real money account.
